Boruca´s Mask
These masks are made by the indigenous territory of Boruca, an indigenous ethnic group that makes masks as part of
their ancestral legacy.
This community of artisans makes incredible masks, which represent the Boruca world view, each mask captures the
connection of man and nature, through colors and unique details which are handmade.
Each mask is made of wood balsa tree, a tree that is of great importance for the Boruca community, after making the
mask, this is painted with acrylic colors to create a piece of great cultural value, each mask takes about 10 hours.
There are three designs Boruca mask, ecological mask, traditional mask, and ecological warrior mask.
The ecological mask has elements like flora and wildlife of the forest of Costa Rica and It is accompanied by an aboriginal
face.
The traditional mask, represents a Boruca warrior, who fought in pre-Columbian battles.
The ecological warrior mask, represents a warrior protecting the jungle of Costa Rica and mixed with the flora and
wildlife
